Sean Dyche to be left red-faced after new developments away from Everton

Sean Dyche saw many changes made to his squad during the summer transfer window as Everton prepared for the 2024/25 campaign.

Kevin Thelwell was working overtime at Goodison Park as Armando Broja, Orel Mangala, Jake O’Brien, Jesper Lindstrom, Iliman Ndiaye and Tim Iroegbunam arrived during the summer months.

Of course, that meant a number of exits had to be sealed in order to make room in the squad, and one of those players is probably regretting his move to Italy right now.

The Toffees pulled off a masterstroke by selling Ben Godfrey to Atalanta for £10million [BBC Sport], a player who had managed just 23 league starts in his final two seasons on Merseyside.

Should he have made more, though? Should Dyche have trusted him with a bigger role in defence? Should he have remained at Goodison Park as a backup to Jarrad Branthwaite and James Tarkowski?

Well, he could be about to prove all the doubters wrong at Goodison Park after being linked with a shock move back to the Premier League after just six months in Serie A with Atalanta.

Sean Dyche to regret Ben Godfrey’s Everton exit?

According to Fabrizio Romano [3 January], Ipswich Town are in talks over a loan deal for the 26-year-old, which would provide him with a perfect opportunity to show what he is worth.

Negotiations are understood to be underway at Portman Road, and if he is to make the move back to England, he could be given an important role under Kieran McKenna.

The Tractor Boys are, obviously, fighting to remain in the Premier League and someone of Godfrey’s experience could be the perfect addition during the January window.

Capable of deputising at right-back or the centre of defence, the former Toffees man could come back to the Premier League with a vengeance and show Dyche exactly why he should have stayed in the country.

In other Everton news, the Toffees are ready to sign a Ligue 1 midfielder, with the potential for £16.6million to be offered.
