Troy Deeney namedrops Romelu Lukaku amid Everton concerns
Troy Deeney has highlighted the lack of a goalscoring threat at Everton since the departure of Romelu Lukaku from Goodison Park as their main source of concern.
Under the stewardship of Sean Dyche, the Toffees have looked resolute defensively but toothless in front of goal, with Dominic Calvert-Lewin failing to hit the heights expected of him.
The signing of a striker has been needed at Everton for some time now and recent links to Evan Ferguson (Dean Jones) suggest the club are aware of it in the current January transfer window with Deeney sharing his concerns live on talkSPORT (3 January, 12: 40pm).
“Everton, I think since Lukaku, they haven’t had someone regularly scoring,” explained Deeney.
“They’ve scored 15 goals. [Dwight] McNeil’s got three, and so has [Iliman] Ndiaye. Calvert-Lewin has one. And then their top assister, he’s got two as well. So it’s not great, really, from an attacking point of view.
“Sean Dyche, will be looking at it going, right, if I want to stay here and move into this new stadium and move on with the time to get it, he’s going to have to get something going in that forward line.”
Everton need attacking reinforcements in January
A complete lack of cutting edge in the final third has been the main cause of Everton’s downfall this season and while Dyche’s style of play has contributed to that, a lack of quality also has.
Ndiaye has been the one relied upon in times of need and that overreliance can become very dangerous, especially in what many will perceive as a relegation battle for the Toffees.
The Mersysiders need several sources of goals and as it stands, they just don’t have that with the stats mentioned by Deeney providing a daunting picture as to how poorly they are performing in that area.

Failure to address the concern in January will provide a massive blow in their bid to avoid the drop and it would likely be seen as huge frustration given that the signing of a goalscoring striker could be the difference between a mid-table finish or not.
While TFG may be somewhat hamstrung with finances in the window, some form of ambition still needs to be shown and that starts with the signing of a striker.
