Robbie Savage laughs at what he’s heard about Everton in Sean Dyche sack claim

Robbie Savage has shared that “it makes him laugh” when people say Arsenal’s set-piece goals are “genius” but when Everton score them it’s called “dull”.

The Toffees have been one of the most prolific Premier League teams from set-pieces thanks to the coaching of the Sean Dyche.

The Merseyside outfit may be just two points clear of the relegation zone at the moment, but it feels like there’s still more than enough talent within their ranks for them to do better.

Writing in a column for the print edition of The Daily Mirror (4 January, page 67), Savage shared his thoughts on whether the former Burnley boss should be kept on as Everton’s manager next season after The Friedkin Group’s takeover.

“New brooms often sweep clean in football, but I hope Everton’s new owners stick with manager Sean Dyche,” he wrote.

“Staying up, and moving into the new stadium at Bramley Moore Dock as a Premier League club, is all that matters this season and nobody is better equipped to deliver safety than Dyche.

“He gets a raw deal, this is the man who took Burnley into Europe and it makes me laugh – when Arsenal score from set-pieces it’s genius, but when the Blues maximise free-kicks and corners, it’s direct, dull and pragmatic.”

Everton need to go against the script and beat Bournemouth

Now that we’re in the January transfer window, it feels like there will be plenty of changes occurring among the Premier League’s teams.

And while Everton may have welcomed some new owners in December, it’s unclear how much the Toffees will be able to spend to bolster their ranks.

Many are expecting Andoni Iraola’s men to easily triumph over Everton but if Dyche can lead his team to a solid defensive performance and perhaps even get one of his strikers to score, an upset of sorts could well be on the cards.

The Toffees are 16th in the league and unless things turn around soon, it feels like they could drop into the relegation spots as both Wolves and Ipswich Town have found some sort of form in recent weeks.

Only time will tell what the future holds for Dyche and Everton, but as Savage said, it doesn’t feel like there’s a better candidate for the manager’s job than the survival specialist himself.
