Sean Dyche sack: Friedkins loathed claim made at Everton

Dan Friedkin will not want to sack Sean Dyche during the final Everton season at Goodison Park, according to Chris Beesley.

The Liverpool Echo reporter believes the idea of firing the English manager will be “loathed” by The Friedkin Group (TFG) after their takeover in December.

As things stand, there are no plans of relieving the 53-year-old head coach of his duties [The i Paper, 31 December].

Beesley wrote in the Liverpool Echo (4 January): “A report this week in the i stated there are no plans for a managerial change, with all the upheaval that would usher in, and that there is backing for Dyche as he moves into the final months of his contract with his current deal expiring in the summer.

“After eight managers in as many years under Farhad Moshiri, TFG, who churned their way through four head coaches at Roma in 2024, are understandably loathed to swap partners for what is ‘The Last Dance’ with the Grand Old Lady.

“As for all the question marks over his playing style and tactical versatility, Dyche is viewed as a safe pair of hands when it comes to keeping Everton in the Premier League under difficult circumstances. But that comes with the significant caveat of him still being able to do that, as like all managers he is ultimately judged by results.”

The Friedkin Group right to stick by Sean Dyche at Everton

TFG are right to stick by the Dyche until the end of the season as they look to avoid relegation.

The English manager has built a pedigree over the years of helping teams survive in the Premier League.

During his time at Burnley, the 53-year-old head coach successfully kept the Clarets in the English top flight for many years.

Turf Moor eventually saw relegation, though, and Everton could also be on that path before their move to Bramley-Moore Dock.

The Toffees are lurking around the drop zone despite some positive results in recent weeks.

Arsenal, Chelsea, and Manchester City were unable to take three points from the Blues, and Dyche deserves praise for this.

The Englishman is seen as the reason for the Merseyside outfit’s predicament, however, with the Goodison faithful not pleased with his style of play.

TFG would be right not to terminate the 53-year-old’s contract, but if things worsen in the coming weeks, they might be forced to do so.
