Vitalii Mykolenko error made as Bournemouth slammed v Everton

Bournemouth are the latest club to fall foul of spelling Vitalii Mykolenko’s name wrong ahead of hosting Everton on Saturday.

Chris Beesley posted on BlueSky (4 January) after the team sheet was released for the Premier League clash, as he spotted Bournemouth incorrectly spelling Mykolenko’s first name as ‘Vitaliy’.

The 25-year-old left-back is well into his third season on Merseyside, with Beesley pointing out that Mykolenko told journalists the correct way to spell his forename upon his arrival back in 2022.

Beesley said: “Today’s teamsheet, but yet another club who can’t spell Mykolenko’s first name.

“We were told shortly after he signed 3 years ago it should be double ‘i’ in English.”

Vitalii Mykolenko can make statement for Everton v Bournemouth

With the Toffees looking to exact revenge on Bournemouth following their calamitous 3-2 loss at Goodison Park earlier this season, Mykolenko can ensure the Cherries never misspell his name again.

The Ukrainian was pulled apart in almost comical style back in August as Bournemouth overturned a 2-0 deficit after 87 minutes to claim all three points in injury time, and must be much better this time around.

Mykolenko remains the only out-and-out left-back on the books at Goodison heading into a potentially transformational January transfer window and can stake his claim to keep his place for the long term.

Dan Friedkin and the new-look Blues hierarchy are seeking reinforcements on the left side of defence this month [Sky Sports, 1 January], meaning Mykolenko’s performance at Dean Court will be put further under the microscope.

However, with Sean Dyche knowing how important Mykolenko is to his side’s defensive balance at present, the 25-year-old will be keen to make Bournemouth remember his name.
