Everton are in the market for a forward, midfielder and potentially a left-back as the January transfer window opens, according to Sky Sports.

The broadcaster reported on 1 January that the Friedkin Group, who completed their takeover at Goodison Park on 19 December, are keen to make a splash this month, with at least two incomings likely.

The priority for the Toffees to address before 3 February's deadline is in their midfield and forward line, with a new left-back also being looked at with Sean Dyche hoping to boost survival hopes.

Friedkin Group have work to do at Everton this January

Although Dyche has poured water on this January being a transformational month for the make-up of his squad, it's clear that with Friedkin at the helm, reinforcements are certainly needed.

The Blues sit just two points and two places above the bottom three as the window opens, and as such, strengthening in the positions identified is vital to prevent a disastrous scenario at the end of the season.

With in-demand midfielders already linked and the need for a right winger, in particular, having been no secret for some time now, adding quality in these positions could be key to staying up.

Even if a sell-to-buy policy is imposed this month, Dyche's squad is currently ageing and has needed a serious uptick in quality, with the sales of out-of-favour players likely to facilitate new arrivals [Mail on Sunday, 29 December].

Dyche has been hesitant to make use of several new signings made on Kevin Thelwell's watch, but with both the manager and director of football out of contract soon, the pair cannot afford for this window to go wrong.
