Liverpool-mad pundit admits he got it wrong over Everton comment on Sky Sports
Stephen Warnock has reaffirmed his stance after admitting he got his facts wrong in a strong-willed rant on Everton.
The former Liverpool full-back held nothing back on Blues sporting director Kevin Thelwell for his poor track record in the transfer market live on Sky Sports News on 16 December.
However, Warnock acknowledged his error live on Sky Sports News on Monday (6 January, 12:13pm) for incorrectly claiming Beto, who is heading towards a January exit, was a £37million signing rather than a £27m signing.
Warnock, who is a Liverpool fan, said: “I got in trouble a couple of weeks ago for having an opinion about Everton. I think I overshot Beto by about £10million.
“But when you’ve gone out and bought Beto, whether [Sean] Dyche or [Kevin] Thelwell, for £27m it’s not good enough.
“You go and get [Jack] Harrison on loan – he’s a bit-part player. Is he good enough to play regularly in the Premier League? Probably not. [Iliman] Ndiaye doesn’t get enough assists for what he’s doing.”
Everton must get transfers right in January window
While Warnock is on the money with his opinions on the Toffees’ transfer dealings, to include Iliman Ndiaye among the list of failings is excessive.
Paul Robinson claimed the 24-year-old could walk into the Manchester City starting eleven after his equaliser in the 1-1 draw at the Etihad on Boxing Day and, despite his lack of goal contributions, his quality is clear for all to see.
However, the Blues’ record in front of goal this season does make for difficult reading – with only 15 goals scored in 19 Premier League fixtures, they are the second-lowest goalscorers this season, only ahead of bottom-of-the-table Southampton.
The less said about Jack Harrison and Jesper Lindstrom, the better – the loan pair do not boast a single-goal contribution this season between them and, in an ideal world, would see their loan deals terminated this month.

However, Dyche and Thelwell are eager to address the ongoing concerns this January and have rekindled their interest in West Brom forward Tom Fellows [Daily Mail]. They are expected to test the waters before the transfer window slams shut on 3 February.
The 21-year-old would be an immediate upgrade on the options occupying the right flank, paired with the quality to fit seamlessly into the current Everton squad.
Premier League survival will depend on how Thelwell navigates the January transfer window on Merseyside.
