Kevin Thelwell transfer stance on Everton-linked Jaden Philogene emerges
Kevin Thelwell is “massively keen” on Aston Villa forward Jaden Philogene despite him turning down Everton for a return to Villa Park in the summer, according to Harry Watkinson.
The TEAMtalk journalist reported via his personal X account (7 January) that the structure of the deal would be “key” if a move is to be sanctioned.
The attacker has played 12 times for Unai Emery this season and if the transfer is given the go-ahead, it would have to be a permanent one as the Toffees already have Jack Harrison and Armando Broja on loan from English clubs.
“Thelwell massively keen on Philogene so no surprise to see Everton come in for him again,” he wrote.
“Structure of the deal will be key. Let’s see what happens but I do think this would be a good signing.”
Jaden Philogene would be a solid coup for Everton in January
At the moment, things couldn’t be going much worse for Sean Dyche and his men as the 53-year-old is having his future questioned left, right and centre.
Names such as Graham Potter’s have been linked with the Toffees’ hot seat and to be quite frank, it would be hard to see why the Friedkin Group would turn down a move for the Englishman, especially since he isn’t currently contracted to another club.
One of Everton’s main issues this season has been the lack of goals that they’ve scored. Indeed, Iliman Ndiaye and Dwight McNeil have often picked up the pieces and filled the gaps but the Merseyside outfit’s attack can’t solely rely upon them.
Philogene’s addition would add some speed to the squad and perhaps even allow Everton to experiment with different ways of attack, which, with Potter in charge, sounds like an ideal situation for them to be in.
The fact that his former Hull City manager Liam Rosenior hailed his skill as “outrageous” [The Yorkshire Post, 13 February 2024] last season, also says all you need to know about why Thelwell is keen on his arrival.
