David Moyes appointment: Mystery emerges after Everton job update
Ian Herbert believes the lack of respect for David Moyes is one of the greatest managerial mysteries after links with Everton again.
The journalist wrote in the Daily Mail‘s print edition (page 67, 8 January) that despite the Scot admitting he doesn’t want to fight relegation in his next job, that may not apply to a Goodison Park return.
Toffees boss Sean Dyche is under heavy sack pressure with his side on a run of five matches without a win in the Premier League and one point above the relegation zone.
Herbert wrote: “Moyes says he’s not done yet, though doesn’t want another role fighting relegation.
“That, however, wouldn’t seem to preclude a return to Everton, despite them eking out a point-per-game, with eight blanks in the last 10, and struggling against any team who let them have the ball.
“Don’t hold your breath though. The lack of appreciation for Moyes makes him one of the great managerial mysteries.”
David Moyes to return to Everton?
A return to Goodison Park would be poetic for Moyes as the Toffees are set to leave the historic stadium at the end of the season.
The Blues’ best manager of the modern era coming back to lead the club away from the relegation zone and into the new era at the Bramley-Moore Dock Stadium is fitting.
The Friedkin Group could get more fans on board instantly with this move.

With the new owners in charge, the Blues should be aiming to become a contender for European qualification shortly, once their financial issues are fully sorted.
Moyes did exactly that during his last spell at West Ham, even lifting the Europa Conference League in a huge moment for the London club.
One thing is for sure, Dyche is not the man to take the club in that direction, he has served his purpose in saving the club from second-tier football but it is time to move on.
In other Everton news, Kevin Thelwell could be set for an exit after the latest Friedkin update.
