Everton fine: Punishment mooted after ‘Amazing’ incident v Peterborough

Everton and Peterborough United could be hit by FA fines after an “amazing” occurrence that took place ahead of their FA Cup tie, according to Keith Hackett.

The third-round clash at Goodison Park on Thursday evening (9 January), a few hours after Sean Dyche was sacked, was delayed slightly due to a clash of sock colour.

Everton went on to win the game 2-0 to advance through to the fourth round of the competition, but they may now hear from the FA.

Speaking exclusively to Goodison News, Hackett said: “It’s amazing that at the professional game level the Everton v Peterborough game was delayed because both teams were wearing white socks.

“This admin shortfall should not happen. It’s obviously a rare occurrence that clubs get a colours mix-up. They may now face a small fine or a slap in the wrist for the oversight.

“This is unlikely to happen in a Premier League game. Each week when the fixture list is produced a member of the Premier League office will check with each competing club the colours that are going to be worn.”

Everton advance in FA Cup after Sean Dyche exit

Everton clarified on X [9 January] during the game that they wore blue socks on the night due to Peterborough not having an alternative option.

It goes without saying that is highly embarrassing considering this is the third round of the FA Cup.

No harm was done in the end, though, and this is hopefully the end of the matter without the FA having to intervene.

As for the match itself, it was far from a classic but it was a case of job done for the Toffees, who will now embark on a new era post-Dyche.
