Everton to become ‘major news item’ with Jose Mourinho hire – The Esk

Jose Mourinho could be the managerial appointment that Everton need with Sean Dyche sacked, according to The Esk.

Dyche has had his contract at Goodison Park terminated with the Blues side sitting just a point above the relegation zone. The Friedkin Group have held talks about succession plans.

With a change happening on Merseyside, Jose Mourinho is one name that has been linked with the vacancy which would mean leaving his role at Fenerbahce.

However, Everton expert The Esk, whose real name is Paul Quinn, feels the 61-year-old could be just what the Toffees need as he posted on X: “If the Friedkins’ objective is to make Everton a major news item in world football, to re-energise the Everton fanbase and massively improve the footballing intellect within the club then Mourinho (assuming he is willing) is the obvious choice.

“Not without risks but bring it on.”

Jose Mourinho set to take over at Everton?

You can see the attraction of this appointment from a supporter’s perspective as Mourinho remains one of the biggest managerial names in football and it would certainly bring attraction to Goodison Park as the Portuguese boss tries his hand at managing at the other end of the Premier League.

Furthermore, given the boss has worked under TFG previously at Roma, this could make a deal easy to strike, depending on the relationship between the two parties, and that would surely fill supporters with some hope.

However, as The Esk says, it certainly would be a risky move. If the Toffees are going to save themselves from relegation this season, their attention needs to be fixed on adding goals to their game with the squad having scored just 15 goals between them all season.

With that in mind, Mourinho doesn’t seem like the most obvious appointment given his reputation for parking the bus and playing a more defensive game, something the Blues fans are used to by now.

In the short-term, Mourinho may offer little change and the remainder of the season could be a slog to stay up.

In the long-term, however, this could certainly be a decision that marks the start of a new era under new owners at Goodison Park.
