Friedkins should be ashamed as details emerge on Sean Dyche sack at Everton

Everton sacked Sean Dyche hours before the FA Cup clash against Peterborough United – and The Friedkin Group should be ashamed as details of his departure have emerged.

The Friedkin Group decided to remove Dyche from his duties on Thursday (9 January), with Leighton Baines and Seamus Coleman taking charge of the FA Cup tie against Peterborough.

Journalist Alex Crook revealed the details behind the decision live on talkSPORT (9 January, 4:39pm), and while Baines and Coleman have a fantastic opportunity to remain at the helm until the end of the season [Sky Sports], TFG should hang their heads in shame.

He said: “The first the players heard about this was when they arrived at Goodison Park for their pre-match meeting, expecting to be met by Sean Dyche. Instead, they were met by the news that Sean Dyche is no longer their manager.”

Dyche’s departure came after he was asked to hold training earlier on Thursday (9 January), yet he was not given a chance to say farewell.

Sean Dyche has been unfairly treated by Everton

The 53-year-old may not play the modern brand of attacking football displayed across the Premier League, but Dyche deserved a more fitting ending to his time at Everton.

He masterminded two relegation battles during his time at Goodison Park, the latter while navigating two PSR point deductions for financial mismanagement – his time at the club has been plagued with controversy.

And the second seemingly competent owners seize control of the Blues from majority shareholder Farhad Moshiri, he is sent packing.

The Toffees are in a strong position to secure passage to the FA Cup fourth-round on Thursday. The decision to make such a drastic change with the match only hours away will only harm the players preparing for the tie.

Furthermore, Dyche was not allowed the opportunity to say goodbye to his players, who must now block out the noise and focus on the upcoming match with no time to prepare for the fixture with Baines and Coleman and even less time to process the news.

Although Fabrizio Romano (9 January) revealed TFG have already begun talks for a successor, this is a poor look for the Everton owners and with the threat of relegation looming, the decision will undoubtedly be looked back on as a crucial turning point at the end of the season, regardless of what happens.
