Jose Mourinho appointment: Instant update Everton update as Sean Dyche sacked

Jose Mourinho is not in contention to become the new Everton boss after Sean Dyche was dismissed, according to David Ornstein.

The Athletic journalist reported on Thursday (9 January) that neither The Friedkin Group nor Mourinho considered the prospect a realistic possibility.

Everton removed Dyche as head coach at Goodison Park only hours before the FA Cup third-round tie against Peterborough United on Thursday evening (9 January).

Leighton Baines and Seamus Coleman will take charge in the dugout for the FA Cup clash after Dyche saw his two-year spell on Merseyside cut short with the Blues lingering one point above the relegation zone in the Premier League.

Jose Mourinho will not succeed Sean Dyche at Everton

While ‘The Special One’ would have been a fantastic appointment for the Blues to help the side steer clear of the relegation zone, his appointment was never possible.

Mourinho has a strained relationship with TFG following his spell at AS Roma, and any speculation linking the former Chelsea, Manchester United and Tottenham boss to Goodison Park is simply lazy.

However, Dan Friedkin is wasting no time hunting for his first managerial appointment, with recently dismissed AC Milan boss Paulo Fonseca one name who is under consideration [Sky Sports].

The timing of Dyche’s sacking is peculiar, leaving the Blues with little time to process the decision with an FA Cup match to play at Goodison Park.

Dyche should be remembered for saving Everton from relegation twice during his time as manager, and while this year’s efforts have not gone as planned, he can leave Merseyside with his head held high.

How will the players be expected to focus on the upcoming match after such a bombshell? TFG better know what they are doing.
