Sean Dyche sacked: Sky instantly name who could manage Everton until summer

Leighton Baines and Seamus Coleman could stay in charge of Everton until the end of the season depending on results, according to Sky Sports News.

Vinny O’Connor reported via the broadcaster [9 January, 4:31pm] that Dyche had been sacked, with Baines and Coleman to be in the dugout for the FA Cup tie with Peterborough United.

And when asked if there is any chance of the pair staying in charge until the summer, O’Connor said that is now possible.

“It’s all about results at the end of the day,” he said. “If Coleman and Baines get results then it may make sense to keep them in charge until the end of the season.”

Everton begin search for Sean Dyche successor

Dyche’s exit was officially confirmed by Everton soon after news was presumably leaked to certain media outlets.

The 53-year-old has been on borrowed time for a while and it seemed just a matter of time before the trigger was pulled.

That said, it seemed certain he would at least be in charge for Thursday’s (9 January) FA Cup third-round tie against Peterborough at Goodison.

Instead, it is now over to Coleman and Baines. It seems inconceivable that they will stay at the helm until the summer, but it often turns out that caretakers have a massive lift on a side when taking over.

Should they beat Peterborough, as expected, and then Aston Villa next midweek, it will take the pressure off The Friedkin Group to name Dyche’s succeesor.

Right now, exactly who that will be is very difficult to say. Jose Mourinho’s name has been mentioned, but that would be a very big risk.

The Friedkins quite simply have to get this appointment correct, so let’s hope Baines and Coleman can at the very least steady the ship for the time being.
