Everton manager news: New Andoni Iraola claim emerges
Bournemouth manager Andoni Iraola may not have joined Everton even if he was offered the job, according to Paul Wheelock.
This comes after it’s understood that David Moyes will be the first manager appointed by The Friedkin Group at the Toffees. [Sky Sports News, 10 January]
The Americans sacked Sean Dyche just after a few weeks in charge as they aim to take the club into the new stadium with them still a Premier League outfit.
Wheelock said on 10 January in the Liverpool Echo: “Then there is Andoni Iraola at Bournemouth and Thomas Frank at Brentford – two managers I would happily see replace Sean Dyche. But the timing is not great. I’m not sure either would swap their current situations for the one Everton are presently in.
“The summer would be different. With a new stadium to move into and money, finally, to spend, for all the club’s current on-the-field problems, let’s not lose sight of the fact that the Everton job will be as attractive as it has been for many years come the end of the campaign.
“All roads lead to David Moyes. He is an excellent manager – as proven at West Ham United and as proven in his 11 years in charge of the Blues.
“I’m not so sure about going back – look at what happened with the club’s greatest-ever boss, Howard Kendall – but Moyes feels like he could be right man in the right place at the right time.
“Would it be better to offer him a six-month contract and reassess the situation in the summer? Perhaps. But regardless of his affection for the club, a manager of his stature may well see that as disrespectful.”
Andoni Iraola would undoubtedly be a solid appointment for Everton
Iraola would undoubtedly be a solid appointment but as Wheelock pointed out, he’s unlikely to leave Bournemouth for the Toffees.
After a tumultuous start at the Vitality Stadium, the Spaniard has revolutionised the Cherries, making them one of the league’s best teams to watch.
However, getting him out of there would be a challenge as he’s not likely to see it as much of a step up.
For now, Moyes can steady the ship and based on the job he does, The Friedkin Group can take a call in the summer.
They should put a break clause in his contract as there still remain doubts as to whether or not he is a good fit for the long term.

The owners should be looking at managers like Iraola who have their best years ahead of them and not like Moyes who seems to be past his peak.
