Everton new manager: David Ornstein shares huge David Moyes claim
Everton are set to name David Moyes as the successor to Sean Dyche, according to David Ornstein.
The Athletic journalist took to X on 10 January to claim that The Friedkin Group view the Scotsman as the ideal one to prevent the club from getting relegated.
An announcement is expected in the next 24 hours and he will likely be handed a long-term deal.
Via X, Ornstein wrote: “David Moyes set to be appointed Everton manager – talks heading towards deal being finalised imminently. Expected to be announced in next 24hrs. Viewed by TFG as ideal for PL survival + longer-term plans, which Everton contract will reflect.”
David Moyes may be a risk for Everton in the long term
While hiring the Scotsman makes sense in the short term, handing him a long-term deal is viewed as a tad risky.
He may not be the same manager he was in his last stint at Goodison Park and managers statistically tend to do worse off in their second stints at clubs.
In the build up to Sean Dyche’s sack, Moyes’ name was seldom mentioned but it appears that he was the easiest one to get.
The Friedkin Group hopefully did speak to other managers thoroughly before narrowing in on the Scotsman.
For the short term, he could be ideal, but it’s still a risk betting on Moyes to be the long-term answer for the club.
He should be appointed by the time the Toffees take on Aston Villa in the Premier League on 15 January.
