Tony Bellew shares honest Sean Dyche sack verdict at Everton
Tony Bellew says he does not believe any other manager than Sean Dyche would have guided Everton through their Premier League points deduction last season.
Dyche was sensationally sacked by the Toffees just hours before the FA Cup third-round tie against Peterborough United, which the Toffees went on to win 2-0.
Pressure had been mounting on Moyes with the Blues just a point above the relegation zone and in need of a turnaround in fortunes.
But former boxer and Everton mega fan Bellew admits he does have sympathy for Dyche, who safely kept Everton in the league last season despite being docked a total of eight points for two separate PSR breaches – the first of which originally being 10 but reduced to six on appeal.
However, speaking live on talkSPORT (10 January, 9:08am) Bellew admitted he has empathy for Dyche as he said: “I feel for him. I really do. He’s had one hand tied behind his back the whole time he’s been at the football club. I don’t think anyone in the whole country or anyone in the world when we got that 10-point deduction could have saved us, I genuinely believe that.
“I think the way he rallied the lads around, the camaraderie that was built inside that camp it was us against the world and he did a great job, he really did and I’m so grateful of what he’s done, I really am.
“I feel for him, I really do but ultimately, the football’s not good enough and we all know football is a result-based business.”
Sean Dyche sacked at Everton
There is no doubt that Dyche has had a tough time at Goodison Park that impacted his success on the pitch with the Blues so it’s no surprise that Bellew feels some sympathy.
However, as he also points out, football has to be judged on results and with the Blues sitting two points above the relegation zone looking weak while the likes of Wolves and Ipswich are looking stronger, TFG were well within their rights to feel like a change had to be made.

The disappointment of this campaign should not detract from the work that the 53-year-old has done across his entire tenure in Merseyside and under different circumstances, he may well have done a better job at Goodison.
That being said, the decision has been made and the responsibility is now on the owners to ensure the correct replacement is appointed with David Moyes currently the favourite to take the vacancy.
