David Moyes return: Everton ‘insult’ verdict shared live on talkSPORT
David Moyes would be insulted by Everton and The Friedkin Group if they think he’s just coming in to “steady the ship,” Shaun Custis has said.
The 61-year-old was brought in by the Merseyside outfit to try and rescue their season as they currently sit just one point away from the Premier League’s bottom three spots.
At the moment, the Goodison Park outfit are 16th in the Premier League, so, if Moyes can’t find a way to turn things around, things could go south rather quickly.
“It’s good to see him [Moyes] back managing,” Henry Winter said while live on talkSPORT (12 January, 10:55am).
To which Custis replied: “It’s a great romantic story that he gets to finish at Goodison Park and gets to lead them into the new stadium even though you just want him to steady the ship and then seemingly be replaced.
“I think he’d take that as a bit of an insult, I don’t think he’s coming in to steady a ship, I think he wants to come in and have some longevity in this job.”
David Moyes could be the man for Everton long-term
There’s no doubt that most fans will see Moyes’ second stint at Everton as a stop-gap until they find a new and exciting manager to lead them into the first few years of their time at Bramley Moore-Dock.
However, if the Scotsman can turn things around and find a way to get at least one of his strikers firing or perhaps even welcome a new number nine to his ranks, he could well make a case to stay with the Toffees long-term.
Since the January transfer window opened, a couple of names such as Jaden Philogene and summer target Ernest Nuamah have been linked with a move to Everton but, as the former has now sealed a move to Ipswich and the latter isn’t likely to want to make the move, those deals seem like they could be off the table.

If there’s one area Everton really needs to add some strength to, it’s their strikers.
And, if a move isn’t made to bring a new face to two in, it feels like they could be kissing their Premier League status goodbye.
In other Everton news, the Toffees could have finally found their solution to a “significant issue” they’ve had at Goodison Park.
