David Moyes will be furious at Everton FA Cup draw

David Moyes will not be a happy man at Everton.

The Blues cruised into the fourth round of the FA Cup in a 2-0 win against Peterborough United on Thursday (9 January), only hours after news emerged that Sean Dyche had been sacked.

Moyes signed a two-and-a-half-year deal to succeed Dyche on Saturday (11 January), and while his immediate fixture run is not kind, the schedule is about to become far worse for the 61-year-old.

Following Manchester United’s penalty shootout win against Arsenal, the FA Cup fourth-round draw occurred live on BBC Sport (12 January, 6:10pm), with the Blues set to host Bournemouth at Goodison Park.

David Moyes and Everton have a torrid record against Bournemouth

When Dyche reflects on what went wrong at Everton this season, it will be easy to draw the conclusion that Bournemouth ultimately became his downfall.

The 1-0 loss against the Cherries at the Vitality Stadium (4 January) proved to be his last match in the Blues dugout and further solidified the impending threat of relegation.

Andoni Iraola has single-handedly dismantled the Toffees with the 3-2 loss at Goodison Park, wherein Everton held a two-goal lead heading into the final five minutes of the contest, a particularly low point this year.

Although Moyes has taken control of the Blues, the chances of a win in the FA Cup remain unlikely, as per Transfermarkt, he has failed to win half of his previous meetings against Bournemouth.

However, the Blues will have home advantage in the tie, and four Premier League matches before the meeting to build some much-needed momentum.

While the draw may not look all that daunting on the face of it, Bournemouth have Everton’s and indeed Moyes’s number.

That said, the game presents a chance to right the wrongs of the Dyche era, and with the January transfer window in full swing, it could be a very different Everton side that line up to face Bournemouth for the third time this season.
