Everton to beat rivals for David Moyes to hire new ally at Goodison

Everton look set to bring in Billy McKinlay and Alan Irvine in a bid to strengthen the backroom staff at Goodison Park, according to Alan Nixon.

The Sun journalist, via his Patreon [12 January], reported that McKinlay would “jump” at the opportunity to reunite with recently installed David Moyes having worked alongside him at West Ham, despite interest from rival clubs.

Moyes is said to want Everton to hire staff members he has previously worked with to make his integration far smoother with a big job on his hands to turn around the fortunes of the Toffees.

Everton set for backroom staff overhaul

The appointment of Moyes was a good start for the Toffees but the backroom hires can play just as crucial a role in the attempts to get the club back on track after what has been a dismal few seasons.

A lack of management ability from Sean Dyche was certainly one of the biggest causes of the regression but the appointment of Moyes alone won’t be enough to reverse that, the backroom staff have to fit and if the Scotsman is to succeed again on Merseyside, TFG have to deliver on their promises.

If Moyes is able to bring in his desired staff, there can be little room for excuses and the very fact that he has worked with them before should provide a sense of optimism for their chances of improving results and performances.

The rebuild of Everton will very much be a team effort and if it is to be successful, TFG have to give Moyes what he wants.

Should they deliver on that, there is every chance that Everton can return to a side capable of challenging much further up the table than they have in recent seasons.
