Liverpool boss Slot makes ‘special’ admission after what’s happened at Everton
Liverpool boss Arne Slot believes David Moyes is a “special” appointment for Everton.
The 61-year-old signed a two-and-a-half-year deal to return to Goodison Park on Saturday (11 January) after The Friedkin Group dismissed Sean Dyche on Thursday (9 January).
Slot spoke about the developments across Stanley Park live on ITV Sport (11 January, 11:41am) before the Reds’ 4-0 win against Accrington Stanley in the FA Cup, and while the Dutchman believes Dyche’s sacking is a “pity” he admitted the return of Moyes will excite the Everton faithful.
He said: “With David Moyes coming in, it’s always special because [of] what he did for Everton, but in general, for the game, he was successful at West Ham, winning the Conference League with John Heitinga, who is my assistant at the moment.
“It’s good to have him back, but [it’s] always a pity that someone, in my opinion, did really well but is out of a job now.”
David Moyes can be special at Everton
A lot has changed at Goodison Park since Moyes’ last spell at Everton.
Before the Blues boss left to succeed Sir Alex Ferguson at Manchester United in 2013, his side had finished in the top half of the Premier League in nine of the 11 seasons he was in charge – they have only managed four top-half finishes since.
Furthermore, the Toffees qualified regularly for the Europa League under Moyes and have not featured in European competition since the 2017/18 campaign.
His return has evoked a wave of positive reaction among former players, pundits and supporters alike, but that doesn’t take away from the monumental task ahead on Merseyside.

The supporters will see Moyes in the Goodison Park dugout for the first time upon his return for the Premier League clash against Aston Villa on Wednesday (15 January).
Everton surrendered a two-goal lead in the reverse fixture at Villa Park earlier this season in the 3-2 loss and while the players will be eager to impress Moyes and avenge the defeat, winning will be no easy feat.
With only one point separating the Blues from 18th-place Ipswich Town, it is imperative that Moyes begins his second spell on Merseyside in winning fashion.
