Calvert-Lewin exit: Everton transfer stance clear after David Moyes admission

Dominic Calvert-Lewin’s future at Everton has been up in the air ever since the summer transfer window.

The 27-year-old has entered into the final six months of his contract at Goodison with no sign of an extension being signed, even with The Friedkin Group open to offering a new deal [TEAMtalk].

With Calvert-Lewin misfiring in front of goal, just the same as Beto and Armando Broja, David Moyes is in desperate need of a new striker signing before the January transfer window slams shut on 3 February.

However, following the new manager’s first press conference, previewing their Premier League clash against Aston Villa on Wednesday 15 January, it looks as though the star man will be going nowhere.

Speaking to the media [13 January], Moyes said: “I think we all feel he’s the one who can make a big difference, get his shooting boots back on and he’ll be a big help to the Evertonians and the manager as well.

“We’ll give him as much confidence and help him as we can, as much practice as we can. But then, there’s a little bit where you need the player to stand up and do his little bit as well. I’ve told him I need goals from him straight away.”

Dominic Calvert-Lewin set for Everton stay after David Moyes admission?

The 266-appearance star has most recently been linked with a cut-price move to West Ham [GiveMeSport], with Serie A side Atalanta also sending representatives to Merseyside [Alan Nixon].

He is attracting interest from all over Europe, especially seeing as he is able to strike pre-contract agreements now, but it seems the striker could be set for a free transfer in the summer.

That is unless Moyes can convince him to stay by turning his form around on the pitch, and more importantly in front of goal, to help him back onside with the frustrated supporters.

Either way, Calvert-Lewin could end another season as the hero after saving the Toffees from relegation last term, and he is needed for the exact same situation, with the team sitting one point above the dropzone.

Of course, his goal drought has directly contributed to the club’s position in the Premier League table, scoring just two league goals this term, but Moyes will surely attempt to address this problem moving forward.
