Everton transfers: David Moyes and Friedkins ready new signings

The Friedkin Group are planning to back David Moyes with up to three new Everton signings in the winter transfer window, according to iNews.

The i reported on 13 January that while transfer dealings at Goodison Park will be restricted by profit and sustainability rules, up to three players could be recruited to bolster Moyes’ squad.

Outgoings will be crucial to determining how much the Toffees’ new owners can spend on new players this month, with TFG also acknowledging that Moyes needs to get more out of their current squad.

A left-back, midfielder and forward player had been identified as areas to strengthen by Kevin Thelwell and Sean Dyche before the latter’s sacking, but it remains to be seen if Moyes has any differing priorities.

David Moyes and Everton set for active January transfer window

While the appointment of Moyes following Dyche’s hasty sacking has proven to be a popular move so far, the Scot will have a much clearer idea of where he needs to strengthen once his Blues take to the pitch.

Dyche’s dismissal – coming with the Toffees 16th in the Premier League table and on a rotten run of form – was in no small part down to an insipid style of play which saw his side score just one goal in five.

Moyes inherits the second-lowest scoring team in the league so far this season, and if he can get the likes of Dominic Calvert-Lewin back into form, expect the Blues to march their way up the table.

However, with Calvert-Lewin’s contract expiring in six months and counting – and the 27-year-old showing few signs of scoring a bucket-load – Moyes will be adamant that a striker is needed this month.

The Scot wouldn’t mind additions in midfield or defence either given how lacklustre the Toffees have looked this term, as Evertonians prepare for a window which could make or break their short-term future.

In other Everton news, one Sky Sports pundit mooted who the Blues could have turned to as a “perfect” fit ahead of Moyes.
