David Moyes sway already on show at Everton as announcement made

David Moyes is already having a positive impact on Everton.

The 61-year-old signed a two-and-a-half-year deal to return to Goodison Park on Saturday (11 January) and his influence is having its sway on the supporters in his second stint before a ball has even been kicked.

Everton supporter group The 1878s issued a rallying cry via an announcement on X [14 January] to organise a display in the Gwladys Street for the match against Aston Villa on Wednesday (15 January) after the new boss’s inspiring words.

It comes after Moyes emphasised the need for Goodison to be rocking between now and the end of the campaign.

Moyes has split opinion among pundits and fans alike for taking up the monumental task of steering the Toffees away from relegation this year – but he is about to receive the highest accommodation on Wednesday.

It has been 11 years since the last time Moyes sat in the dugout at Goodison Park – both club and manager have changed a lot since then.

However, the connection with the supporters has remained as strong as ever, and the boss issued a direct call to the fans in his first press conference at Everton (13 January).

He said: “I believe we’ll be strong enough to stay away from [relegation]. But I’m not kidding myself on, or anybody else.

“We’ll need everybody behind us. We’ll need the players playing better and scoring more goals if we’re going to make that happen.”

While the players performances are up to Moyes to improve, the power of Gwladys Street will be a detrimental factor in the Toffees’ hopes of avoiding relegation in the final home games of the season.

All Evertonians are behind Moyes as he undertakes the toughest challenge of his career with former Blues greats during his first stint on Merseyside, such as Tim Cahill publicly offering their support.

A win on Wednesday will prove The Friedkin Group made the right decision to terminate Sean Dyche and will give the supporters the hope they need that Moyes can ensure Premier League survival this term.
