Dominic Calvert-Lewin exit: Everton ‘confident’ after David Moyes return
Everton are “confident” of agreeing on a new contract with Dominic Calvert-Lewin after the appointment of David Moyes, Graeme Bailey says.
The TBR Football journalist has revealed the Toffees believe the striker will sign a new contract if they can get back on track as other teams ramp up their interest in him.
Calvert-Lewin’s current deal expires at the end of the season, and he’s open to a pre-contract agreement, but the Blues haven’t given up on his renewal.
Speaking to Everton News (16 January), Bailey said: “The belief in the club is that they can still get him to sign a new deal. With Moyes coming in, I think if they can get something going, they’re pretty confident.
“But obviously, he’s open to pre-contract, and there’s interest there. But they haven’t totally given up on Calvert-Lewin, Everton, yet.”
Everton need to make Dominic Calvert-Lewin decision soon
The Merseyside outfit can’t keep waiting on Calvert-Lewin to decide his future.
As things stand, the Toffees are seemingly in desperate need of funds to reinforce their squad before the 3 February deadline.
The number nine position is one of the areas that is a thorn in Moyes’ side already, with Beto and the English striker the only two options at the manager’s disposal at the moment.
Armando Broja has picked up another injury, and Everton are looking to terminate his loan agreement to free space for another temporary signing [The Guardian, 16 January].

If Calvert-Lewin is indeed going to leave for free next summer, then the Blues might as well cash in on him in the winter transfer window.
While there’s already a dearth of options up front, the Merseysiders could free up his wages and bolster their attack with much-needed quality.
The 27-year-old has scored only two goals in the current campaign, and the Toffees arguably won’t miss him if he leaves in the coming weeks.
It will be interesting to see how the situation unfolds.
