Everton ‘first’ to Willian transfer as Premier League return on cards

Everton were the “first” team to show interest in bringing Willian back to the Premier League in the winter transfer window, according to TNT Sports Brazil.

The news outlet revealed on their X account (16 January) that the Toffees were the first team eyeing a deal for the former Chelsea winger.

After ending his stint with Olympiacos, the 36-year-old is without a club and could return to England.

Willian to sign for Everton?

Willian could prove an astute piece of business from the Blues if they get a deal over the line.

The Merseyside outfit are in desperate need of creativity in the final third, with Iliman Ndiaye the only reliable outlet at David Moyes’ disposal.

Sean Dyche struggled to bring the best out of the Toffees’ attack and the Scottish manager faced similar issues as Aston Villa took three points from Goodison Park in a 1-0 win on Wednesday (15 January).

Dominic Calvert-Lewin and Beto need more help up top, as they often cut lone figures playing in the number nine position.

Everton have been underwhelming in front of goal this season and seemingly need someone to make more of an impact.

Willian enjoyed a fruitful spell at Chelsea, but his time at Arsenal was less than stellar, leading to questions about his abilities.

The Brazilian regained his reputation after impressing at Fulham for two seasons before eventually making his exit last summer.

While the 36-year-old won’t fix the Blues’ long-term issues, he is an immediate solution who could contribute a lot in a relegation battle.
