Jermaine Pennant shares David Moyes worry at Everton after what he’s seen

Jermaine Pennant has questioned whether David Moyes is enough of a change from Sean Dyche at Everton.

The Toffees parted ways with Dyche before appointing Moyes to bring him back to Goodison Park after 12 years away from Merseyside.

The Scotsman took charge of his first game on Wednesday (15 January) although came out on the wrong side as the Blues lost 1-0 against Aston Villa.

Speaking live on talkSPORT (15 January, 1:16:07) Pennant posed a question to an Everton supporter as he said: “Are you not worried that getting rid of Dyche and then bringing in Moyes is more or less the same kind of style of manager?

“We saw the kind of style of football he was playing at West Ham, hence why he probably got the sack because everyone was hating him and booing him.

“Are you not worried that it’s going to be the same style of football? You know, defensive, not attacking-minded, literally like for like.

“The only difference is that Moyse is an Everton club legend.”

David Moyes needs Everton reinforcements

Both Dyche and Moyes are well-experienced managers and in the right circumstances, would probably have a similar chance at keeping the Toffees in the Premier League.

However, it was clear that the past number of years had taken their toll on their former manager who didn’t feel like he was able to take the club any further, so his departure made sense.

Furthermore, although spirit doesn’t get you results, the return of someone so highly regarded at Goodison Park can only lift the morale of those on the terraces which will, therefore, give them something to cheer.

Nevertheless, that will only get the Blues so far and with that in mind, the Friedkin Group must allow their new boss to make some additions to his squad during the transfer window.

It is imperative that the Toffees go to their new stadium as a top-flight club and therefore, the club hierarchy have to give the boss their backing to achieve these aims.
