Simon Jordan way off in what he said about David Moyes return to Everton
Everton have had a disappointing season so far and find themselves at the wrong end of the table with a relegation battle on their hands.
As a result, The Friedkin Group made the decision to part ways with Sean Dyche ahead of their FA Cup tie against Peterborough United.
The new owners consequently looked to the club’s past for answers as David Moyes has been appointed as the new Blues boss, after 12 years away from Goodison Park.
However, Simon Jordan feels as though the Everton supporters may be putting too much faith into the Scotsman as he said live on talkSPORT (15 January): “David going back to Everton…I don’t know. They say you should never go back. I don’t know how successful he’ll be.
“I never thought Everton were going to be relegated under Sean Dyche. The mood music will change because there will be the feeling of, ‘Okay, you’re the saviour. We’re waiting for you.’
“The club’s changed! He’s been gone 20 years! It might have the same spirit in the fanbase but it doesn’t have the same culture behind it [Moyes actually left 12 years ago].
“It’s a different animal from the one Moyes knows. All this, ‘Moyes knows…’ – it’s changed! It’s a different club.”
David Moyes is just what Everton need
While Moyes is unlikely to get his side playing a completely different style of football than Dyche, as an experienced boss you would also back the Scotsman to keep his side up.
Jordan isn’t wrong when he points out how long the 61-year-old has been away from Merseyside and, of course, in that time things will have changed.
However, the spirit of the club and the knowledge of what the expectations are will prove to be a big thing when it comes to the mindset being drilled into the squad by their new boss.
Furthermore, with new owners TFH at the club and the Toffees about to move to a new stadium, some familiarity is exactly what is needed to bring fans along for the journey too.
Dyche seemed to have accepted his fate that he couldn’t take the Blues any further forward and TFG had to make a smart decision when it came to his successor.
The split over opinion of management at Goodison has been rife this term and therefore, the importance of appointing a boss who can mend that while also delivering a professional set of performances on the pitch cannot be underestimated.
If the Toffees can save themselves this term, supporters will no doubt be very optimistic about going to a new ground with a boss who will cherish their history as much as those cheering him on.
