Everton ‘now surely looking’ at Evan Ferguson loan after Moyes update this week

The return of David Moyes to Everton has lifted the morale around Goodison Park after a difficult season.

Although Sean Dyche coped well throughout difficult times, with the Toffees sitting just a point above the relegation zone, a change had to be made.

However, a loss against Aston Villa on Wednesday (15 January) will have reminded new boss Moyes that there is plenty of work to be done to save the club from relegation this term.

The Blues received a blow when Armando Broja was forced off in the FA Cup tie against Peterborough.

It has since been confirmed that the striker will face another extended period on the sidelines after playing just five Premier League games this term.

Armando Broja injury could allow Evan Ferguson loan for Everton

One area where the Toffees are really lacking this term is upfront with only three goals contributed by Dominic Calvert-Lewin, Beto and Broja this term.

Furthermore, the Blues are the second-lowest scores in the top flight behind Southampton, showing something needs to change if they are going to survive.

With this in mind, it’s not a surprise that since Broja’s injury, Moyes has suggested that the player will have to return to his parent club Chelsea [London Evening Standard, 16 January].

However, this departure could open up exactly what the Blues need by allowing them to bring Evan Ferguson in with a domestic loan spot opening up.

The Toffees have made a move for the forward [Graeme Bailey, 14 January] but with Brighton likely to only be open to a loan deal, if Broja remains at Goodison Park, it would leave the Merseyside outfit with little space to move.

Ferguson would be a great addition for Everton in the second half of the campaign and if the 20-year-old could get regular minutes under his belt, he could well get going in front of goal.

Furthermore, if Broja is going to be out for another long period, it makes no sense for the Blues to waste a loan spot they could use to help them out of their sticky position in the table.
