Paul Merson shares what Everton will be ‘dreading’ as Tottenham prediction made

Everton will be “dreading” the possibility of an open game against Tottenham in the Premier League, according to Paul Merson.

The Sky Sports pundit has predicted the Toffees to lose 2-0 as they host Spurs at Goodison on Sunday (19 January).

Merson feels that nothing has changed for the Blues under David Moyes, and they lack the goalscoring ability to beat the North London outfit.

Merson wrote in Sportskeeda (16 January): “Nothing changed with Everton the other day, I said that before didn’t I? It’s not like Sean Dyche left a lot of players out in the cold, and Moyes could just come in and be like, ‘I’ll just fine-tune this guy to perform a miracle’.

“Tottenham are always Spursy, but I believe they will have too much for them in this game. Spurs will open the game up and I don’t think they have the firepower to outscore the visitors. The hosts can only hope of keeping it tight at the back, but I’m not sure they can do that for long here.

“Everton will be dreading the possibility of an open game here, and that will play into Spurs’ hands.”

David Moyes needs to convince in Everton v Tottenham

The Scottish manager’s return to the Goodison dugout was not fruitful as Aston Villa took the three points with a 1-0 win on Wednesday (15 January).

Considering the goalscoring issues that the Blues have had this season, the former West Ham United boss will need to change something soon.

The Merseyside outfit are in a relegation battle, sitting just one point above 18th-place Ipswich Town in the Premier League table.

Everton need to put on convincing performances in the coming weeks to boost their hopes of survival in the final season at Goodison.

It would be embarrassing for the Toffees to go into Bramley-Moore Dock in the Championship, and Moyes needs to do everything in his power to avoid that outcome.

Tottenham haven’t been at their best in the current campaign and the Blues have the opportunity to pull off an upset against Ange Postecoglou’s team.

The home supporters will hope Merson’s prediction doesn’t come true.
