Robbie Savage sends David Moyes message after Everton loss v Aston Villa
Robbie Savage has sent a message to Everton manager David Moyes after his first loss against Aston Villa on Wednesday.
Writing in the print edition of the Daily Mirror (18 January, pg 67) the outspoken pundit warned the Scot that he would not be able to change the Blues’ fortunes straight away.
The former West Ham manager replaced Sean Dyche, who was sacked on 9 January but fell to defeat in his first game back, losing 1-0 to Villa at Goodison Park on 15 January.
Savage did wish Moyes well in a new message, saying: “I said there was no magic wand, and that removing Sean Dyche wouldn’t change the narrative at Everton overnight.
“I wish David Moyes well and I hope he keeps them up, but Everton’s 1-0 defeat by Aston Villa in the first game of his second coming at Goodison Park told its own story.
“Look no further than the Toffees’ poor scoring record – 15 goals in 20 games – to explain their precarious position just a point above the relegation zone.”
Everton need attacking recruits in the transfer window
As Savage highlights, the Blues’ biggest trouble is their fortunes in front of goal with Dominic Calvert-Lewin and Beto failing to impress.
In fact, between the two forwards, they have three goals in the Premier League this season with the last coming in the 1-1 draw with Fulham in October.
Dwight McNeil is the top goalscorer in the league with three goals and he has missed the last six matches with a knee injury.

They need more than just one recruit if they are to ensure survival though, and have been linked with Rangers star Hamza Igamane and Borussia Monchengladbach ace Tim Kleindienst.
With the window ticking on into the third week, the Blues need to support Moyes in the market urgently to solve their goalscoring issues.
