Alan Shearer blasts ‘dreadful’ Everton after what he saw before Tottenham win
Everton have been “dreadful” in terms of scoring goals this season, Alan Shearer says.
The Premier League legend has blasted the Toffees’ abysmal record before beating Tottenham 3-2 at Goodison Park on Sunday (19 January).
Shearer expects David Moyes to sign reinforcements in the winter transfer window after what’s happened this season.
Speaking on The Rest Is Football (20 January), the ex-striker said: “Hardly looked like scoring any goals. Their goal record up until today has been dreadful. That’s the most important thing.
“He [Moyes] has to somehow get some goals into that team, whether it’s working with the players he’s got or probably, more likely, he’ll go out and buy a player or two.”
Alan Shearer spot on about Everton struggles
The Merseyside outfit have the second-worst goalscoring record after 20th-placed Southampton in the English top flight this season.
Dominic Calvert-Lewin, Beto and Armando Broja have failed to find the back of the net consistently, as the Blues have scored just 18 goals after 21 league matches.
The England international was brilliant against Tottenham, but the Goodison faithful will want to see a similar display at the Amex Stadium against Brighton on Saturday (25 January).
Everton have lost Broja to an injury once again and should definitely go into the market to bolster their attack before the 3 February deadline.
Moyes is expected to avoid relegation this season, but The Friedkin Group (TFG) will seemingly need to assist the Scottish manager in achieving that goal.
Calvert-Lewin is the Toffees’ first choice number nine, but his goal return has been underwhelming in the current campaign.
The centre-forward has scored just three times in the Premier League, but hopefully, this latest goal helps him kick forward between now and the end of the season.
In other Everton news, Moyes faces the “devil” as a claim has been torn to shreds.
