Chris Sutton shares Calvert-Lewin doubt despite what ‘Brilliant’ Everton ace did
Chris Sutton believes Dominic Calvert-Lewin still has some “doubt” at Everton despite his “brilliant” performance against Tottenham on Sunday.
The striker was one of the Toffees’ best players and was one of the main reasons why they left Goodison Park as 3-2 victors.
Speaking on the Football Daily Podcast in quotes relayed by the BBC Sport website (21 January), Sutton shared his thoughts on what the Englishman’s goal against Ange Postecoglou’s men will have meant to him.
“He’s really lost his belief. He’s been low on numbers and had injury problems – the past few seasons he’s barely scored a goal,” he said.
“He just isn’t playing with any clarity. When you’re confident and you’re flowing it’s seamless, but he still seems to have that doubt.
“Hopefully that goal will do him the world of good for confidence. He has so many brilliant attributes.”
Dominic Calvert-Lewin needs to get back to top form for Everton
While the Englishman’s performance against Tottenham is one of his best in recent memory, it means nothing if he doesn’t manage to carry this over to at least Everton’s next few games.
The Toffees’ number nine has often been the subject of criticism this season with chance after chance going wayward.
However, it’s not from a lack of trying as both Beto and Calvert-Lewin have always put in more than enough effort when on the pitch.
As the Toffees once again find themselves in the Premier League’s relegation battle it feels like it’s now or never for their players to start firing.

Indeed, Dwight McNeil has been absent for a fair few weeks now which likely hasn’t helped matters much but the fact that their strikers haven’t found the back of the net often enough is likely more of a concern.
At the moment, it’s anyone’s guess how things are going to end up for David Moyes and his men but if the Scotsman can figure out how to get Calvert-Lewin back to his best, they should be more than safe.
In other Everton news, the Toffees have reportedly made an approach for a Monaco star after their Champions League win against Aston Villa.
