David Moyes has urged Dominic Calvert-Lewin to become more effective going forward for Everton this season, according to the Mail on Sunday.

On page 92 of Sunday's edition (19 January), it was reported that Moyes has held individual player meetings at Finch Farm as a priority, with Calvert-Lewin given major focus.

The Scotsman has "lectured" a number of players on improving their impact, including how Calvert-Lewin - who has just two goals so far this season - must vastly improve his output in the six-yard box.

The Mail said: "Moyes didn't need to be a rocket scientist to know one of his first ports of call should be Dominic Calvert-Lewin.

"He challenged the striker, who has scored two goals in 20 league games this term, to start to deliver and get into the six-yard box more."

Everton must get bigger tune out of Calvert-Lewin

Most Premier League clubs would have dropped Calvert-Lewin by now for a sustained period, and challenged him to earn his place back in the side.

However, Moyes is still left with the 27-year-old leading his attack as he is simply devoid of many serious alternatives.

The striker has been heavily linked with a move away from the club he joined back in 2016, and is still appearing no closer to extending his stay on Merseyside.

In truth, it is one to which a lot of supporters are now indifferent and a large section are happy to see him move on; it could well be the most beneficial step for his own career, too.

Armando Broja was beginning to start the final games of Sean Dyche's reign, but for the Albanian to suffer an injury which pulled Calvert-Lewin back into the side.

There is also Beto, who has popped up with the odd goal, but he himself has been linked with a return to Serie A and Everton must look at the remainder of the winter window to fix a blatant issue.
