Everton transfer priority emerges after what happened

Everton are prioritising the signing of creative wide players in the January transfer window with Dominic Calvert-Lewin backed to come good, according to Joe Thomas.

The Liverpool Echo journalist reported (22 January) that the Toffees are putting their focus on signing players that can assist their number nine in the remainder of the season, rather than replace him.

This comes after the 27-year-old scored his third goal of the campaign in a 3-2 win against Tottenham on Sunday (19 January) and looked rejuvenated up top.

Everton to support Dominic Calvert-Lewin

If David Moyes is going to keep his Everton side on track and save them from relegation then there is no doubt that their attacking ranks need reinforcement with the Toffees scoring the second-lowest number of goals in the top flight this season.

Furthermore, Calvert-Lewin has been way off the levels that are expected of him throughout the campaign so far, offering little at the top end of the pitch.

However, after a promising display against Spurs, it seems as though the Scotsman is taking the approach of assisting his striker rather than freezing him out for someone new.

Although Iliman Ndiaye has shown his quality throughout the campaign so far, other than him, there have been a lack of goals from wide players including Jack Harrison and Jesper Lindstrom showing they have not been doing enough to support their team’s attacking efforts either.

The 27-year-old looked as though he could have scored more against the Lilywhites so you can understand why the boss thinks it’s vital to improve the delivery he is getting in order to increase his opportunities.

That being said, there’s no covering up how poor the number nine has been so far this season and Moyes will be hoping it isn’t a mistake putting too much faith in him.
