Everton transfers: Kieran Tierney makes decision as contract terms close
Everton have shown “an interest” in Arsenal left-back Kieran Tierney in the winter transfer window, according to Mike McGrath.
The Telegraph journalist reported via the newspaper’s website (23 January) that although the Scotsman is now “on the verge” of a return to Celtic, a switch to Merseyside was considered to “bolster” the Toffees’ left-back options for David Moyes.
The report also adds that other clubs such as Bayer Leverkusen, Sevilla and Juventus were also “interested” but the 27-year-old has seemingly chosen an emotional return to Glasgow.
McGrath wrote that terms are now close to being agreed on a pre-contract with the Bhoys.
Everton could have done a lot worse than Kieran Tierney
Even though Everton’s defensive line is arguably one of the strongest areas of their squad, it feels like Tierney would have been a more than valuable addition to Moyes’ ranks.
At the moment, Vitaliy Mykolenko is the main man for Everton at left-back and even though Ashley Young can also play there, he’s been used at right-back more often than not this term.
While Young is having an impressive season and has been on top form, the fact that he’s 39 years old is no doubt a cause for concern and gives Everton a more than valid reason to want to acquire the services of a new full-back.

Tierney may have had his troubles with injuries over the last few seasons but his attacking prowess combined with his defensive fortitude made him an ideal candidate for the new Moyes era.
However, it evidently wasn’t meant to be with the Scotsman seemingly heading back to Glasgow.
