Chris Sutton makes David Moyes admission in Brighton v Everton prediction

Chris Sutton says David Moyes has got plenty of work to do to keep Everton in the Premier League, despite their 3-2 win against Tottenham.

The Toffees got their first win under the Scotsman against Spurs on Sunday (19 January) in a performance that was deserving of nothing less.

The Blues travel to Brighton on Saturday (25 January) and the boss will be hoping his side can get another result as they look to build momentum in the league.

However, Sutton isn’t sure that will be the case as he wrote on BBC Sport: “It is hard to judge David Moyes’s Everton off the back of their 3-2 win over a Tottenham side who have been so leaky defensively.

“This will be a much better indication of whether Toffees striker Dominic Calvert-Lewin is up and running after ending his long wait for a goal against Spurs.

“Similarly, it’s hard to read too much into Brighton’s victory at Manchester United.

“Their performance was impressive, especially how dominant they were, but then everyone is dominating against United at the moment – even Southampton managed it when they went to Old Trafford.

“Everton were also very good against Spurs but I think they will find things much harder here and Moyes has still got a bit of work to do to keep them up.

“Scoring goals has been such a problem for them so getting three against Tottenham was massive – but I don’t think they will get any this week. Prediction: 2-0.”

David Moyes can save Everton from relegation

When Moyes returned to Goodison Park, the Blues were sitting just one point clear of the relegation zone so the boss will be under no illusions about the level of the job on his hands.

The Toffees’ good win against Spurs gained an important three points but they remain just four points about the drop zone now so, as Sutton says, there is plenty of work to be done in the remainder of the campaign.

Sadly for Everton, Brighton have found their form again and as the home side, it does make this a tough trip which will be disappointing as momentum would surely help the Merseyside outfit going forward.

That being said, even if Moyes’ side were to lose this game, supporters will be hoping to see the levels of performance they saw on Sunday as this will suggest signs of progress.

It is essential for the Blues to end this campaign as a top-flight side as they prepare to move to their new stadium and get a new era underway.
