Danilo Barbosa transfer: £2m offer made, Everton deal to be done

Everton have been offered the chance to sign Botafogo midfielder Danilo Barbosa, according to the Sunday Mirror.

The newspaper reported on 26 January (page 71) that a deal for the 28-year-old could be struck for just £2million before the winter window closes.

The defensive midfielder has also been offered to Sheffield United and Leeds United as his contract looks set to expire in December 2025.

The Serie A outfit are open to offers for the ex-Brazil under-23 international who remains an option for the Toffees until the 3 February transfer deadline.

Given all the financial issues that have been faced at Goodison Park in recent years, the hierarchy still have to be smart in the transfer market.

Even with the Friedkins coming in as new owners, measures have to be taken to ensure that the Premier League have no reason to come calling in L4.

With that being said, bringing in an experienced option from Brazil for just £2m could prove to be a no-brainer before the winter window ends.

The midfielder has featured for the likes of Nice, Benfica, Valencia and Braga over the years and could be set to add English football to his CV.

The potential to sign Barbosa could have come at the perfect time after Orel Mangala went off injured in the latter stages of the win against Brighton.

It will be interesting to see if he is the sort of player that David Moyes is interested in, in January or whether another English side takes up the option to sign him.
