Carragher shares what he knows about Everton now after family visits to Goodison
Everton fans have a connection with “Evertonian” David Moyes which “was never there” with Sean Dyche, according to Jamie Carragher.
The former Liverpool defender and Everton fan has argued the fanbase at Goodison Park have regained a feeling that the manager is “one of us”.
Carragher, speaking on The Overlap (28 January, 58:03) alongside Paul Scholes and addressing an Everton supporter in the audience, claimed there is not a great deal of difference between the respective styles of play of Moyes and Dyche but the Toffees identity contrast is huge.
“We’ve all watched David Moyes’ teams and we’ve all watched Sean Dyche’s teams. They’re not a million miles away from each other in terms of how they go about it. It won’t be like Roberto Martinez, or anyone like that,” he said.
“It always gives you that positive feeling when you’ve got someone who feels like ‘one of us’. Moyes feels like an Evertonian, from being there so long before.
“That was never there with Dyche, but I know from my family going to games, there was no connection with the supporters.”
Everton fans feel like club has returned under Moyes
While a certain section of Everton fans would not have been convinced by the reappointment of Moyes, there became an almost universal outcry for Dyche to be moved on.
The former Burnley boss was inevitably going to leave at the end of the season regardless, but the reinstatement of a familiar manager with whom they enjoyed years of excitement has been an anticipated occasion.
Toffees fans feel a connection with Moyes based on his previous stint lasting over a decade. Everton at the time were a force to be reckoned with and secured some superb league wins.

Having now won each of their last two with Tottenham and Brighton the scalps claimed, Moyes has already steered the side away from a massive relegation threat as they now remain merely outsiders for the drop.
There is certainly more faith from the blue half of Merseyside that Premier League football at Bramley-Moore Dock can be secured far quicker with their former hero at the helm, an adopted Evertonian if there ever was one.
