Everton to bid £25m max to sign Forest star Awoniyi amid transfer budget reveal
Bryan King believes £25million would be the most Everton would bid for Nottingham Forest striker Taiwo Awoniyi.
The ex-Goodison scout believes Everton need to sign a new frontman after losing Dominic Calvert-Lewin to injury, with funds to be made available as the Toffees target two late signings [via iNews, 30 January].
As reported by TuttoSport (29 January), David Moyes will be handed £33.5million to spend on players, with Awoniyi the latest name to emerge on a shortlist at Goodison Park.
And King – speaking exclusively to Goodison News – thinks £25m of the £33.5m transfer kitty made available to Moyes could go toward signing Awoniyi.
“He could be a good addition for Everton,” King said.
“However, he will want first-team football at Goodison Park, because he isn’t getting it with Nottingham Forest who are riding high, despite the defeat to Bournemouth.
“Everton obviously need something because they’ve lost Dominic Calvert-Lewin and they’ve got some big matches coming up. If anything were to happen, I think Awoniyi would go on loan. I couldn’t see them paying big money, £25million would be Everton’s maximum offer I’d imagine.”
Everton to sign Nottingham Forest striker Taiwo Awoniyi?
Awoniyi has scored 17 Premier League goals in 65 appearances, with a number of those appearances coming from the bench. Therefore, he certainly knows where the back of the net is, and he is clearly a player who could score goals for Everton, which would spell the end of the road for one player already at Goodison Park.
However, whether or not he is worth £25m would need to be considered carefully.
Awoniyi is still only 27, which means he has plenty of time on his side. However, he hasn’t always been the first-team striker at the City Ground. Therefore, he might not be up to the standards that Moyes requires for a player to constantly lead the line.

However, if Everton need a striker, and a deal can be agreed upon, they could certainly do a lot worse than Awoniyi, especially considering the small amount of time left in the winter transfer window.
