Evan Ferguson ‘to save Everton from relegation’ amid Broja release claim

Everton could look to replace Armando Broja with Brighton striker Evan Ferguson before 3 February.

As reported by TEAMtalk (31 January), the Toffees are considering a last-gasp move for Ferguson, although a loan switch won’t be possible unless Broja can be sent back to Chelsea.

According to the Liverpool Echo (1 February), the Toffees are now considering holding onto Broja as his initial three-month prognosis is now only expected to be half that time.

However, ex-Goodison scout Bryan King – speaking exclusively to Goodison News – thinks the club should bring in a striker who is ready to play now.

“They should look to release Broja,” King said.

“Everton cannot afford to play the waiting game here. Although their last couple of results have been positive, David Moyes’ first priority must be to get 11 players out on that football pitch who can produce results which will keep the club in the Premier League.

“There would be nothing worse for Everton than getting relegated ahead of moving into a new stadium. I’d imagine the one priority for the Friedkin Group would be to remain in the Premier League. I think under Moyes they have a very good chance of doing that.

“However, they need players available now, and Ferguson could certainly be a player to keep them in the league.”

Everton to sign Brighton striker Evan Ferguson?

While Broja’s injury prognosis has now halved, it could still be April by the time the striker is back to full fitness. Therefore, it doesn’t seem wise to hold onto the Albanian.

If they can find a way to send him back to Stamford Bridge and bring in a player of Ferguson’s quality, albeit only on loan, who is ready to hit the ground running straightway, that would be the ideal solution for Moyes.

However, with such little time left in the winter transfer window, the Toffees might run out of time to pull everything together.

In other Everton news, an £11.7million forward has been offered to the club in a last-gasp transfer.
