Everton ‘priority signing’ mooted before deadline after Carlos Alcaraz news
Everton have shifted their transfer priority to the signing of a new striker before the 3 February deadline, according to Alan Myers.
The Toffees are closing in on a deal for Carlos Alcaraz, who is jetting into the UK on Saturday 1 February, ahead of a loan move to Goodison Park [Eduardo Borges], which includes a £16.7million option to buy clause [Fabrizio Romano].
David Moyes is now without Dominic Calvert-Lewin and Armando Broja, both being sidelined with new injuries, and the Merseysiders now look to be addressing that issue before the transfer window closes.
“I would think a striker is a priority, but to be honest, you can’t just line up priorities in a transfer window,” Myers wrote via X [1 February].
“It’s about what presents itself at any given time, so you could anything but they are looking for a striker – no doubt about that.”
Everton to secure new striker before 3 February deadline?
Moyes would not have expected two of his main strikers to be sidelined with crushing injuries just days before the transfer window closes, but that’s football.
The Scot has been in football management long enough to know the kinds of twists and turns that can emerge halfway through a Premier League campaign, and there needs to be a plan in place for that.
Alcaraz, who has experience in England due to his time with Southampton, is certainly a good step towards aiding the Toffees’ current goalscoring issues, but more is needed.

The Argentine has just three goals in 19 appearances since signing for Flamengo in August 2024 but he more than proved himself at St Mary’s Stadium, bagging eight goals in 47 games.
An out-and-out striker is definitely needed, with that often being a problem season to season, but the Toffees’ PSR concerns certainly put a damper on any potential big-money move before the 3 February deadline.
In other Everton news, the Toffees are targeting a late move for an “amazing” striker as a new PSR twist emerges.
