Tony Cascarino slams ‘scandalous’ Everton v Leicester moment after what he saw

Leicester City’s defending was “truly awful” in their 4-0 defeat to Everton at Goodison Park on Saturday, Tony Cascarino has said.

Speaking on talkSPORT (2 February, 6:52am), Cascarino laid into the Leicester players for their approach throughout the one-sided contest on Merseyside, which saw the Toffees go 2-0 up inside six minutes.

Leicester failed to deal with a long ball forward from Jordan Pickford, which led directly to Abdoulaye Doucoure’s opener after just 10 seconds, and things didn’t improve whatsoever for the Foxes.

Cascarino said: “Seeing the goals go in is absolutely scandalous – give credit for the way Everton played, you know what they’re going to be about.

“[But] I don’t think anyone is free of criticism yesterday from Leicester, because they were – and the goals they conceded – truly awful.

David Moyes’ Everton revival aided by Leicester City collapse

Given Leicester are one of the sides below the Blues in the table looking to pull away from the relegation zone themselves, serving up performances such as the one they did on Saturday doesn’t bode well.

The Foxes are firmly lodged in the battle at the bottom which Moyes’ Toffees are slowly edging themselves away from, with three straight wins moving them nine points clear of the bottom three.

Up to 15th and potentially just one win away from moving as high as twelfth, the Blues coming up against sides whose defending can best be described as “scandalous” will provide plenty of optimism.

Everton and Leicester are still only separated by Spurs and Wolves in the Premier League table, but the Toffees’ form since Moyes’ return to Goodison is giving them a buffer which could soon be unassailable.

Leicester’s woeful defending won’t see them make any big jumps up the table anytime soon, and though there’s still a long way to go, Saturday’s result showcased two sides in wildly contrasting circumstances.

In other Everton news, a permanent clause has emerged as the Toffees close in on the confirmation of a brand-new loan switch.
