David Moyes ‘set for agent phonecalls’ for new Everton striker transfer

Everton will be the subject of phone calls from agents with unwanted strikers on Deadline Day, Chris Bascombe suspects.

The journalist believes that David Moyes expects to be busy and will likely field calls from representatives of players who are not wanted by their clubs on 3 February.

The Blues are in the market for a forward as the 11 pm deadline approaches, with Carlos Alcaraz set to become the first new signing of the day.

Writing in The Telegraph’s live blog, Bascombe said: “I suspect every agent with an unwanted forward on their portfolio will be on the phone to Moyes giving it the big sell.”

Everton cannot settle for unwanted strikers

If a player is not getting game time at a club, it is usually because they are not performing at the required level.

The Blues should avoid signing another club’s unwanted players as they are unlikely to improve the options at Moyes’ disposal.

That being said, they do need to bring in more firepower because Dominic Calvert-Lewin and Beto have only scored six goals between them in the Premier League this season.

The Toffees are currently nine points clear of the relegation zone after a run of three successive league victories, where Beto did score twice against Leicester.

However, that could change with a poor run of results and they could find themselves back in the survival battle sooner rather than later.

To avoid that, the Blues need to bring an extra body in attack to Goodison Park before the transfer window slams shut but it must be the right player.

In other Everton news, the Toffees have made a last-gasp effort to sign a Premier League striker.
