Everton desperate in new striker search – BBC journalist
Everton tried to bring a striker in before the transfer deadline but could not find the right fit, according to Phil McNulty.
The BBC Sport journalist reported via the broadcaster’s website [4 February] that the Blues attempted to sign an attacker before the 11 pm deadline on 3 February but could not find the right option.
The Goodison Park club were linked with a deadline-busting move for Benfica forward Arthur Cabral [Everton News] but a deal did not materialise.
Explaining the difficulties that the Toffees faced, McNulty said: “I think Everton desperately wanted a striker but given their current financial situation, where they still need to be aware of PSR, it was very difficult to find the right player at a good price.
“The fact they had two domestic loans already in Jack Harrison and [Armando] Broja did not help their cause, but I am 100% certain they did try to sign one. They just could not find the right fit.”
Everton may regret not signing a forward
David Moyes could regret the decision to not sign a striker in the winter transfer window, despite his side now sitting nine points clear of the relegation zone.
The Blues could be dragged back into a survival battle if results in the Premier League do not go their way in the next few weeks.
Adding a new attacker would have reduced that risk, with Dominic Calvert-Lewin and Beto notching just six league goals between them this season, on top of Broja’s injury issues.

Instead, Carlos Alcaraz was the only incoming, but staying on the right side of Profit and Sustainability regulations was the most important task for the Toffees.
That should allow them to reinforce the squad in the summer window ahead of the move to the new Bramley-Moore Stadium.
Overall, it is an exciting time for the Goodison Park faithful, with the club about to head into a new era with new owners and a new ground.
