Everton fans could be about to see brand-new Beto after transfer links
Everton supporters have spent lengthy spells of Beto’s career at Goodison Park forcibly removing clumps of hair in exasperation.
Fast-forward to the present, and he has the springboard under David Moyes to become one of the Premier League’s most dangerous strikers.
Some may have found confusing the fact the Bissau-Guinean received so much transfer interest throughout the winter window – albeit most of this came from Italy where he did enjoy his best football to date.
However, his display in Saturday’s Goodison dismantling of Leicester City (1 February) demonstrated there is something within the frontman that can be built upon for the rest of this season.
With the transfer window having slammed shut late on Monday night (3 February), it was a quiet market for the Toffees, who signed Carlos Alcaraz on a loan-to-buy from Flamengo, enabling Harrison Armstrong to head to Derby County on loan. No further activity went through before the deadline.
This means Beto remains an Everton player and is not bowing out with the high note he registered with the brace against Leicester at the weekend. He will be needed by David Moyes – and it’s time to deliver.
Beto has it in him if Moyes and Everton can access it
Beto’s double on Saturday brought him up to five goals this season, just three in the Premier League – it’s as underwhelming as Everton’s overall attacking return throughout 2024-25.
That is, of course, until around the last three games, during which Moyes’ men have registered eight of their 23 league goals and moved nine points clear of the relegation places.
Beto was doomed under Sean Dyche – consistently consigned to the bench while Dominic Calvert-Lewin, running his contract down as it stands, failed time and time again to get on the scoresheet.
There is an element Calvert-Lewin brings to the Toffees with his linkup play, but it’s nothing Beto can’t do. A towering, 6’4” presence up top should be able to bring the creative players into action, subsequently providing him with opportunities in the 18-yard box.

With the 26-year-old understandably not fully trusted to be the main man up top, Moyes now has little choice. Beto’s emergence has however coincided with the improved attacking output from the blue corner of Merseyside.
If he allows himself to be fully committed to learning under his manager’s wing, the goals could flow; whether that benefits Everton via their long-term striker solution or via their shop window finances, it’s a win-win for the Blues.
