Everton fans to ‘hate’ what Andy Goldstein said live on air, Darren Bent agrees
Andy Goldstein has predicted Everton fans to hate him after suggesting the club’s league ambitions have dropped considerably.
The Toffees have finished no higher than 15th in the Premier League table over the last three seasons, with Frank Lampard and Sean Dyche saving the club from relegation.
With Dyche still in charge until recently, the Merseyside club looked to be sleepwalking into yet another relegation dogfight, but David Moyes has changed the culture already with three consecutive wins.
Speaking live via talkSPORT [4 February, 6:10pm], Goldstein said: “At the beginning of a season, and you look at a club like Everton, and Everton fans are going to hate me for saying this…
“Recently, Everton’s brief has just been ‘stay up’ [in the Premier League]. They’re a much bigger club than just ‘stay up’.”
Darren Bent echoed: “Yeah, stay up.”
Everton to pull away from Premier League relegation battle
There has been a total lack of ambition at Goodison Park in recent seasons, with former owner Farhad Moshiri becoming a controversial figure for that exact reason.
Of course, the club has been hindered by Profit and Sustainability Rules, meaning activity in the transfer market has been at an all-time low, but that finally looks set to change under new ownership.
The Friedkin Group have already endeared themselves to the supporters, replacing Dyche with Moyes, which looks to have been a brilliant decision with three consecutive victories in the league.

With wins against Tottenham, Brighton and Leicester City, the Toffees have moved nine points clear of the dropzone, and Moyes’ return to Goodison Park has been greeted with major positivity.
There is still a lot for TFG to change if the Merseysiders are to start pushing for a high position in the Premier League table, but the early signs are promising.
In other Everton news, The Friedkin Group have already made an incredible decision, which could kickstart a new era on Merseyside.
