Jamie Carragher predicts Everton showdown v Bournemouth in FA Cup

Jamie Carragher has predicted a tight affair as Everton take on Bournemouth on Saturday.

The Blues face the Cherries in the FA Cup fourth-round clash at Goodison Park on 8 February looking to continue their momentum under David Moyes.

The Toffees defeated League One Peterborough United in the third round immediately after Sean Dyche was sacked before the south coast side beat West Brom to set up the contest.

Bournemouth to beat Everton in FA Cup

Andoni Iraola’s side suffered their first loss in their last 13 matches in a 2-0 defeat to Liverpool last Saturday (1 February).

Meanwhile, the Blues have won three successive matches and now have a nine-point buffer on the Premier League relegation zone.

However, the former Liverpool star believes that the south coast outfit will have too much for the Toffees on this occasion.

Predicting for Super 6, Carragher claimed that the contest would finish 2-1 to the visitors, a result which would see the Goodison Park outfit knocked out of the FA Cup.

Win would be huge for the Blues

If Moyes can guide his side to victory against in-form top-flight opposition, it would be a huge result and make Carragher look silly in the process.

The Toffees have not won a trophy since they won this very competition in 1995, with a 1-0 victory over Manchester United in the final.

They were knocked out at this stage last year after a 2-1 loss to Luton Town, who were a Premier League side last season.

The returning Scot could start the Friedkin era in the best way possible if he can negotiate a route to the Wembley showcase in May.

If his side manage to beat Bournemouth, who had not lost since 23 November before last weekend, then they will be confident against anyone in the later rounds.

The Cherries have tasted victory on the last three times that the sides have met in the league, so it will be a challenge for the hosts.

However, the Blues have shown in recent weeks that they have enough firepower to avoid the drop and maintain their top-flight status, do they have enough to go on a cup run?

Only time will tell.
