Everton news round-up: Fresh investment at Goodison, contract talks to be begin

Everton crashed out of the FA Cup on Saturday at the hands of Bournemouth, but more optimism can be found from a recent claim made surrounding future investment.

As always with a matchday, the primary focus is on the performance and the result, both of which Everton failed to deliver on in the FA Cup.

A 2-0 defeat to Bournemouth ended Everton’s cup run but allowed them to focus on the primary goal of achieving Premier League safety.

With that in mind, plenty of behind-the-scenes talks and updates have emerged that should provide optimism on Merseyside for the remainder of the campaign and beyond.

Goodison News rounds up all the day’s top stories in one place.

James Tarkowski slammed for moment v Bournemouth

The result wasn’t the only negative for the Toffees, but the performance of James Tarkowski just added frustration to it.

Having found themselves 1-0 down at the time, a calamitous attempt of playing the ball out from the back saw Tarkowski slammed by Perry Groves in the build-up to Bournemouth’s second goal.

Speaking via talkSPORT 2 (8 February, 4:43pm), Groves said: “Tarkowski and Pickford having a little word with each other. Tarkowski says ‘I don’t want the ball’.

“He’s played a ridiculous pass from his own 18-yard box, tried to go across the field, gives the ball away to [Marcus] Tavernier and in two seconds it ends up in the back of the net.”

Everton open contract talks with Idrissa Gueye

According to TEAMtalk (8 February), Everton are keen on tying Gueye down to a one-year contract extension with the midfielder having impressed since the return of David Moyes.

As things stand, the 35-year-old is due to see his contract at Goodison Park expire at the end of the current campaign, though the hopes are that he can extend his stay and play a part in the opening of the Bramley-Moore Dock Stadium.

With 22 appearances in the Premier League so far this season and two assists to his name, Gueye has been a crucial figure in the midfield with the Toffees keen on seeing him remain on Merseyside for another season.

Armando Broja twist emerges at Goodison Park

Everton are likely to renegotiate the terms on a permanent deal for Armando Broja, if he is able to showcase his worth to the Toffees once he returns from injury.

That is according to Mark Douglas, but if the Albanian fails to impress, decisions will have to be made.

Broja has been limited to just three Premier League appearances so far this season, failing to find the back of the net on any of the odd occasions he has featured.

If Everton were to agree terms on his permanent signing, it would be a huge risk and one that shouldn’t be allowed to distract them from the need of a new frontman in the summer.

Fresh investment claim made at Everton

According to Alan Myers (8 February), the Everton hierarchy are set to look at various aspects of the club with investment in mind as they aim to take the Toffees to the next level.

Writing via his X account, Myers said: “I think all areas of the club will be looked at by the new owners to see where they can improve or invest further.”

That should be welcomed news for those on Merseyside who have largely seen their club stripped of investment and any potential, with that all likely to change.

A summer rebuild is needed at Everton and without significant investment, that will not be possible as they look to steer clear of a side that has looked destined for relegation for years.
