MOTD pundit reveals what Tarkowski told Pickford before Everton howler
Everton goalkeeper Jordan Pickford was at fault as Bournemouth scored their second in a frustrating FA Cup defeat on Saturday.
The Cherries travelled to Merseyside on 8 February and were able to score two without reply to book their place in the fifth round.
This comes as a blow to the Toffees who have bowed out of the famous competition for the final time before their move away from Goodison Park.
David Moyes would have been hoping for better from his side but was ultimately let down by an error which cost his side in the end.
Jordan Pickford went against James Tarkowski request in Everton v Bournemouth
The away side took the lead in L4 through an Antoine Semenyo penalty after just 22 minutes as James Tarkowski was adjudged to have brought him down.
The second strike of the afternoon came about after the Englishman gave the ball away but it is safe to say he was put under unnecessary pressure by his teammate.
Pickford played the ball to the defender’s feet but former Toffee Ashley Williams believes the 32-year-old was urging his keeper against passing the ball short.
Speaking on Match of the Day (8 February), he said: “This is crazy as a goal kick. Branthwaite, Young and Garner are all facing the other way, they think he’s going to kick long.
“Tarkowski is actually saying, ‘Calm down, take your time, I don’t really want it.’ Winterburn and Jebbison are ready to press, he plays it anyway and now Tarkowski is in trouble.
“He plays a pass which I can only imagine was to Ashley Young, Tavernier has his shot and then it deflects about three or four times.”
Jordan Pickford to blame for Bournemouth second goal v Everton
It is fair to say that Andoni Iraola’s side were well placed to pounce on the Toffees if they were to play the goal kick short and attempt to play out.
As a result, a long ball up the pitch to attempt to win the second ball appeared to be a wise move for the England international keeper.
Pickford didn’t take up this option and instead piled pressure on his Tarkowski who then made the wrong decision and lost the ball himself.

There was then a string of poor defensive moments before Daniel Jebbison was able to score which ultimately put the tie out of the home side’s reach.
This comes as a blow as the FA Cup curtain falls on Goodison for the final time despite desire from fans to endure a longer cup run to say goodbye to the Grand Old Lady.
